the minimalistic christmas tree

Josh and I got married December 31, 2016- five years this month!  I wanted our wedding to be a winter wonderland theme with lots of Christmas trees and snowy, wintry “feels” without there being any red or green colors that screamed Christmas since it did fall after the holiday.  With that being said, I kept things very neutral in color.  I had tons of frosted white birch trees lit up everywhere and a plethora of winter décor.

Over the years, I’ve put that décor to good use, and every November I drag all of our wedding leftovers out of the attic and decorate my entire house! It is honestly always way over the top!  Every single centerpiece arrangement from our wedding goes into my Christmas tree along with beautiful ornaments we have collected over the years. I have had a fun run with all of that décor and it is always so special bringing out all of the wedding remnants and being able to reminisce over our special day.

However, this year I just felt a change needed to take place.

We’re in our new home, which is definitely different in style than any other home we have lived in.  Plus, the base of my home décor is at an all-time low as I am slowly curating the look I am trying to achieve. With that being said, it just didn’t seem right to go all out and slam Christmas decorations in every corner. I just felt the need for something more simple and minimal to get me through the holidays without sacrificing that cozy warmth we all long for during the holidays. That is when I decided to have “a minimalist Christmas tree.”

Instead of using my fluffy flocked tree that I have loved for years now, I opted for this beautiful pre-lit Aspen Fir.  I stole this beauty off of Amazon, and I have been super pleased with this purchase. This tree has a fluffier and more traditional-like artificial tree branch closer to the base.  As the branches extend out towards the ends, the limbs become thinner and change texture giving it more of a realistic Christmas tree appearance from afar.

For this tree’s décor, it truly is minimal and totally different from my normal style, but I am telling you, I am LOVING it! Every time I walk past this simple gal it puts a smile on my face and warms up my heart.

The garland I chose is from Hobby Lobby.  It is a mixture of wooden and felt beads which I loved.  Since I knew I wouldn’t be adding much more to this tree, it gave me multiple rustic cozy textures in one piece. I am all about mixing the “highs and lows.”  So, instead of adding more rustic pieces, I opted for some glimmer and glitz ornaments.  I got all of my ornaments from Home Goods.  I had in my head that I did not want multiple shapes for the ornaments- only classic round balls. I chose 4-5 packs of round ornaments with different neutral shades such as silver, gold, and pewter.  Adding the glitter in with the rustic elements is truly my decorating style on any day, not just Christmas!

I never thought I would want such a minimalistic Christmas tree, but over the years, the more simple things are, usually the more I enjoy them.

I may decide to bring out all the wedding pieces again one day, but for now, I am going to just enjoy the simple things in life this holiday season, and I hope you do too.

merry christmas!! - xoxo michaela
